YITSKHOK BREYNIN

YITSKHOK BREYNIN (December 14, 1878-April 14, 1933)
            He was born in Lyady, Mohilev (Mogilev) region, the younger brother of Reuven Breynin (Brainin).  He attended religious elementary school until age fourteen.  Later, he helped his father to support their family.  In 1896 he moved to Vienna, where his brother Reuben was living.  He became a factory worker and in his free time attended classes in drawing and sculpture.  During WWI, he served in the Austrian army, and on the Italian front he was taken prisoner where he remained for half a year.  He published stories, current events pieces, and articles in Idishe ekspres (Jewish express) in Leeds, England (1899-1900), Avrom Reyzen’s Dos idishe vort (The Jewish word) (1905), Lemberger tageblat (Lemberg daily newspaper) (1906-1907), Yidisher arbeter (Jewish worker) in Cracow (1907), Keneder odler (Canadian eagle), Amerikaner (American), and Roker’s Morgn-post (Morning newspaper) in Vienna.  He also published current events articles in Hebrew in Hatoren (The mast).
